Description
Rakh is probably the most organic-looking piece of the collection. Its beige clay base is run through with contrasting stripes that underline its shape without taking away its raw, handcrafted side. Made in Varanasi, India, this 6-inch chillum belongs to a long tradition of clay-shaped objects. Each piece has its own nuances: colour, the texture of the earth or the regularity of the finish may change slightly from one to the next. Its roughly 15 cm format gives it real presence in the hand while keeping the immediately recognisable conical silhouette of the traditional chillum. A fine object for those who prefer material and the handmade gesture to perfectly uniform accessories.

Varanasi has been shaping chillums for far longer than we have been selling them. The pieces come out of family workshops, thrown and carved by hand, fired in batches — a craft passed on in the workshop, not in a specification sheet.
We are not the workshop: we select these pieces, we use them ourselves, and we keep only the ones that hold up.
